Petroleum iQ
Energy, Heavy Oil & SAGD Solutions

SAGD Wells4D-iQ provides SAGD producers with a graphical spatial data interface for viewing time-based engineering data (such as temperature, pressure and flow) in 4D in a geological spatial setting.

The Petroleum iQ SAGD Interface complements the existing geological workflow by allowing all manner of geological, engineering and mapping data to be integrated together from different systems for visualization and manipulation in a 3D and 4D virtual environment.

Geology:

  • wells, core logs, markers, facies
  • geological surfaces, reservoir boundaries
  • seismic data, 3D geology objects, geologic block models

GIS:

  • high-resolution LiDAR DEMs
  • scanned images, satellite data
  • mapping data, hydrology infrastructure
  • survey grid data, claim data
  • geology and engineering maps

Engineering:

  • SAGD injector and producer wells
  • vertical observation wells
  • temperature data, pressure data, operational data
  • steam chamber shells and block models

SAGD Well Field

The 4D interface has been developed in collaboration with SAGD producers as an engineering and operations tool for:

  • integration of geology and geophysics data with engineering data
  • integration of surface spatial data with subsurface spatial data
  • incorporation of time-based data into the functional workflows
  • inclusion of spatial data software and data manipulation techniques
  • complementing the geological workflow

The system can be used by SAGD operators:

  • to visualize surface and subsurface spatial data in 3D and 4D (over time)
  • to monitor SAGD injector and producer wells and optimize steam usage
  • to plan the positioning of SAGD wells and the positioning of surface facilities
  • to understand why certain SAGD wells are underproductive and to improve their performance
  • to plan remediation wells to supplement SAGD production quotas

Production changes and growth of the steam chambers can be monitored over time and correlated to the geological models and data to determine more accurately what is happening in the reservoir and how production can best be increased.

Subsurface Steam Chambers

Special emphasis is placed on time-based attributes such as temperature and pressure at the sensor positions down the SAGD wells, and the effective visualization and animation of these over time.   Other time-based attributes such as SOR (steam oil ratio) belong to the entire well and are visualized over time.

4D-iQ works in collaboration with SAGD producers to provide the tools needed for effective production workflows.
