Ambercore Delivers Stereo Viewing Capabilities to De Beers
Ottawa, Canada, August 21, 2006 – Ambercore Software Inc., a leading global provider of high performance spatial software and services for Energy and Mining industries, has today announced the development of stereo viewing capabilities for De Beers SA. Stereo viewing comes as an added feature to the spatial data visualization software delivered by Ambercore in May of this year.
Stereo display and stereo-interactive planning is a bundle of special visualization methods which will allow the operator to see in virtual 3D stereo mode, different images and scenes related to the mining and environmental scenarios.
The advantage over typical analogue solutions is that stereo-display will not require special expensive equipment but will be adjusted to accommodate a regular PC together with low-budget additional hardware. This hardware includes a special graphics card and polarized stereo-glasses.
“The ability to view subsurface visualizations in 3D-stereo mode on one’s desktop or laptop is immensely ground braking for us,” said Sergey Reznichenko, Mining Research Manager at De Beers. “Seeing our geological data in virtual reality allows us to make better decisions as to where mining or exploration should take place.”
The updated software package also includes automated drill-hole (or tunnel) positioning for the novel navigational mining methods. This added capability takes into account data about materials to drill through, grade values, cost and technological limitations and builds the optimal trajectory for future drill holes.
