Ambercore Delivers SAGD Software

Ottawa, Canada, Thursday, July 30, 2009 – Oil companies are always looking for new and innovative ways to extract crude oil. One of the technologies is the Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) enhanced oil recovery technology used to produce heavy crude oil and bitumen. It is an advanced form of steam stimulation in which a pair of horizontal wells is drilled into the oil reservoir, one a few meters above the other. Low pressure steam is continuously injected into the upper wellbore to heat the oil and reduce its viscosity, causing the heated oil to drain into the lower wellbore, where it is pumped out. Developing accurate visualizations of the oil deposit, the wells and the steam chambers are essential for successful operation of SAGD.

Ambercore’s 4D-iQ software is an engineering based decision making support system, designed for in-situ heavy oil projects which use SAGD. An increasing number of SAGD oil producers are complementing their suite of analytical tools with Ambercore’s data integration and visualization solution.

“Being able to integrate and visualize 3D data from many sources is an essential part of the SAGD planning process. Adding Ambercore’s 4D-iQ technology to our customers’ SAGD tools is a definite asset,” said Martin Sendyk, President and CEO of Ambercore, “and we look forward to working closely with our clients on a business as well as a technical level in the SAGD industry.”

About Ambercore
Ambercore is the 4D Company. We make innovative mobile LiDAR technology, we provide LiDAR data collection services, and integrate and extract knowledge from 4D data.
