Director, Finance
Reporting to the CFO, this seasoned accounting professional will manage and control the financial activities of the Company’s international operations. The successful candidate will possess a minimum of ten years progressive experience in a dynamic product/service based environment.
As an integral member of the senior management team, you will assist in developing financial plans and business forecasts. A key responsibility will be to ensure efficient financial operations and controls across the organization as well as providing operational, tactical and strategic input as required.
As a detail-oriented individual, you will be responsible for developing and ensuring that the company's financial reporting and accounting practices adhere to acceptable standards. While this is a leadership role, this individual will also be comfortable in being actively involved in the day to day activities of accounting and analysis in a "hands-on" manner.
The Director of Finance is responsible for a wide range of functions including, but not limited to:
- Manage, supervise, and coordinate the company's financial activities which include; financial accounting, operational and budgetary controls, policies, procedures, standards and systems;
- Responsible for the Treasury functions including cash management, customer and supplier account management and liaising day to day with financial institutions;
- Responsible for all aspects of financial reporting including preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements which will be provided to the Chief Financial Officer, Executive Team and the Board of Directors;
- Responsible for all statutory/regulatory filing and reporting of financial results and compliance reports;
- Maintain the accounting processes and practices that support internal controls and accepted accounting standards and best practices;
- Oversee the direction of all tax-related duties;
- Manage the company's foreign exchange activities;
- Assist the CFO in preparing the annual budget and cash flow forecasting;
- Oversee the successful completion of the annual financial audit
- Remain up to date on best practices and provincial/federal/state law regarding corporation operations, recognizing the risks and opportunities associated with industry trends that may affect business operations;
- Manage and develop the finance team and ensure excellent interdepartmental relationships;
- Manage insurance policies, ensuring adequate coverage and timely renewals
The successful candidate will possess the following:
- Completion of recognized accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA)
- At least ten years' progressive experience in a fast-paced product/service based environment with previous experience overseeing the day to day finance operations, complex financial analysis, reporting responsibilities and supervising finance professionals;
- Thorough knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost control, GAAP, foreign exchange, taxation and audit compliance;
- Ability to operate equally in strategic and tactical mode; capability to translate strategic direction into well defined operational plans;
- Ability to adapt well to change and able to operate effectively as a change agent under pressure;
- Capability to jump into the middle of issues and obtain effective results, able to react quickly and multi task;
- Exceptional service orientation possessing strong interpersonal and communication skills coupled with a dynamic approach and strong personal presence. Works effectively with internal and external partners, and exudes a "can do" attitude;
- Strong judgment and decision-making skills;
- High attention to details and standards of accuracy;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Experience working with Boards of Directors, venture capital investors, and debt providers with global presence would be considered a definite asset
